Water, as found in nature, contains numerous elements that are important and necessary for life. Some of these necessary elements cause difficulties in water purification, especially heating or use for technological purposes.
The most serious problems are calcium and magnesium. Their quantity in water is technically represented by its hardness. The structure of calcium in water consists of devices that come into contact with hard sediments – limescale. Its thickness increases over time with the amount of calcium and magnesium in the water. Limestone growth is significantly enhanced by increasing water temperature. Heating water significantly contributes to the thickness of the limescale, which then causes huge difficulties in the entire heating complex. Limescale damages pipes, boilers, water taps, plumbing, washing machines and measuring and control technology. As a consequence, the accumulation of limescale leads not only to damage to the device, but also to energy loss (30%).
Calcium scale deposition can be prevented by modifying the water or by modifying the structure of the calcium in it. Based on the principle of operation, it is possible to divide these devices into the following:
- chemical modifiers – calcium is removed by chemical processes;
- physical modifiers – work on the principle of physical change, without the use of chemicals.
Precipitation in water devices is conditioned by the presence of salts in the water, mainly calcium hydrogen carbonate Ca(HCO3)2 or magnesium hydrogen carbonate Mg (HCO3)2, and calcium carbonate CaCO3 or magnesium carbonate MgCO3. If the concentration of these carbonates exceeds the level of solubility in water, they begin to settle in solid form on the inner surfaces of the device. The crystals bind tightly to the surface and the process of stone formation (inlay) begins.
Physical modification of water, by using a magnetic field and exploiting the hydrodynamic qualities of water, prevents the growth of crystals on the solid surface of the object. A correspondingly strong and specially focused magnetic field causes resonant vibrations of the molecules; the crystal structure is broken, thus creating a soft precipitate of the corresponding salts. The crystals fall into a much larger number of small crystals (several hundred of their original size) on a smooth surface that have no tendency to precipitate and can be easily filtered, if necessary.
Such physical modification of water does not remove any solid substance present in it. They are preserved, which is very necessary, especially if such water is used for drinking.
Magnetic water modification results in simpler and cheaper operation of hot water devices without chemical water modification. It saves costs for chemical modification and is more environmentally friendly.
ANTICALC® uthe device, which is produced by our company, works on a physical principle. In this way, the modified water is usable for drinking.
